Souters is an accredited CILEx and a City & Guilds centre. This means that CILEx courses and assessments can be held at our centre in London.
CILEx was established in 1892 and is an industry standard for training legal support staff (Legal Secretaries, Paralegals and Legal Executives) through to the level of Solicitors.

This course aims to provide the student with a basic understanding of a legal office, how to function effectively in a legal office and some practical experience of some of the functions of a legal secretary.
This is carried out on a flexi-time format in a mixture of classroom session led by your tutor, personal tuition and home based practical projects. All of your home based assignments are carried out with support from your tutor and they are corrected by your tutor, on completion. The program entails one external exam and some in-house assessments
There are two units in this course: –
1. Legal Word Processing
2. Working in the Legal Environment
Included in the fee are Typing and audio training, which are essential.
The learning process can be flexible and completed faster on a more full-time basis or slowly on a part-time basis. The high level of practical exercises ensures that you are more confident and job ready. The CILEx and City & Guilds qualifications are recognised within the legal industry as a standard for legal support staff, in the UK and internationally.
Dates and Duration
Start dates for the course are frequently available and often there are a few each month. Once you have booked, your tutor will arrange your induction session. Feel free to contact us if you have doubts regarding the start date. The course is completed on a flexi-hours basis as previously mentioned.
As a general guidance, the course takes most people four to six months, part-time, or two to three months, full time.
No previous office or secretarial experience necessary.
A good standard of secondary education and fluency in English.
The CILEx qualification is an industry standard for Legal Secretaries. It is an excellent foundation for a successful Legal Secretarial Career and leaves the option to take your legal training to higher levels within the sector.
